AI Visibility Is Not a Separate Service

AI VISIBILITY

You do not need a separate AI optimization service.

You need someone who actually understands how SEO works.

If you have been hearing a lot of noise about AEO, GEO, and “AI search optimization” lately, you are not alone. Agencies are rebranding SEO services, spinning up new AI visibility packages, and warning clients that they need to do something completely different to show up in AI Overviews and AI Mode.

Google’s official guidance on generative AI features in search validates what WebPulse has been doing all along: AI visibility is not a separate discipline. It is an integrated layer within good SEO.

Spoiler: AI visibility is not magic. It is SEO done right.

THE PROBLEM

The misinformation machine is loud.

Go online right now and you will find no shortage of people selling answers to a problem that does not exist in the way they describe. The louder the noise gets, the more business owners feel confused and anxious.

That confusion creates demand for the very “experts” who created the fear in the first place. It is a self-serving cycle, and we think it is unfair to business owners who are just trying to make good decisions.

Common claims we are seeing:

  • “You need an llms.txt file to feed AI systems.”
  • “You need to chunk your content into tiny fragments for AI to read it.”
  • “You need to rewrite your content using long-tail keywords that match AI queries.”
  • “You need to pursue mentions across the web to build AI authority.”

None of that is supported by Google. Google published a mythbusting section in its own guidance and called these tactics out directly.

WHAT GOOGLE SAID

SEO is still relevant. Full stop.

Google’s generative AI features are built on top of its core ranking systems. That means the foundational SEO work WebPulse has always done is exactly what makes content eligible to appear in AI Overviews.

AEO and GEO are just SEO. Google says, “From Google Search’s perspective, optimizing for generative AI search is optimizing for the search experience, and thus still SEO.” When agencies sell Answer Engine Optimization or Generative Engine Optimization as a separate discipline, they are often selling a rebrand of services that good SEO practitioners have been doing all along.

Content quality is the main lever. The guide emphasizes unique, non-commodity content that brings a real perspective, first-hand experience, and expert insight. This is not new advice. This is what WebPulse has been telling clients for years.

THE MYTHS

The tactics Google called out.

In its generative AI search optimization guide, Google explicitly addressed several tactics being sold as “AI optimization” and shut them down.

01

No special AI-readable files

You do not need llms.txt files or special AI-readable markup. Google may discover many kinds of files, but that does not mean those files are treated in a special way for AI search ranking.

02

No content chunking

You do not need to break your content into tiny fragments. Google systems can understand the nuance of multiple topics on a page. Write for your audience, not a hypothetical AI parser.

03

No keyword stuffing for AI

You do not need to rewrite every page around every possible AI query variation. Cover the topic well, write naturally, and let the existing systems do the rest.

04

No fake mention campaigns

You do not need to pursue inauthentic mentions across the web. Google’s spam and quality systems are still working. High-quality content gets picked up, not a quantity game of brand mentions.

HOW WEBPULSE HANDLES IT

We treat AI visibility as a layer within SEO.

WebPulse has not changed its approach because of AI search. We adjusted our language to match what clients are asking about, but the actual work has been consistent for years.

  • We focus on foundational SEO first. Technical structure, crawlability, page speed, mobile usability, and schema markup still matter.
  • We prioritize non-commodity content. We help clients create content that reflects real expertise, real experience, and real perspective.
  • We do not sell panic. We tell clients what Google actually says, what matters, and what does not.
  • We do not offer standalone AI visibility packages. There is no meaningful service to offer that is separate from good SEO.

WHAT TO DO NEXT

Ask one simple question.

If you are working with an agency that is now offering “AI optimization” as an add-on or a separate service, ask them this: what specifically are they doing that is different from standard SEO best practices?

If the answer involves llms.txt files, content chunking, keyword stuffing for AI query variations, or anything that sounds like it was invented in the past 12 months, you are probably paying for something that does not move the needle.

What moves the needle is what it has always been: well-structured technical foundations, genuinely useful content that reflects real expertise, and a site that delivers a good experience to real people.

That is what WebPulse does. We have been doing it. And now Google has published it in black and white.
